Data we collect
Very little. There are no accounts. Words you search are sent to our API
to fetch map data, and we use Google Analytics to count visits (see below). Like any web
server, ours keeps standard access logs (IP address, requested URL, time)
for operation and abuse prevention, retained for a short period.
Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) to
distinguish visitors and measure usage. If advertising is enabled (see below),
Google and its partners set cookies to serve and measure ads.
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: pages visited, approximate location (country/city), device and browser type, and how visitors arrive. Google processes this data under its privacy policy; see how Google uses data from sites that use its services. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies.
When ads are shown, Google AdSense and its partners use cookies — including the DoubleClick DART cookie — to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites, and to measure ad performance. Map tiles are loaded from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org), which sets no cookies; historical styles load from OpenHistoricalMap. No social widgets, analytics beacons, or external fonts are loaded by the site itself.
